Hair transplantation scars and burn wounds

Hair transplantation

HST: Originally developed for Burn Patients

The scientific HST technique was initially developed as a treatment for burn patients. Dr. Coen Gho, the founder of the international Hair Science Clinics, is a renowned expert in hair restoration for burns and scars.

Dr. Gho collaborates closely with organizations such as the Brandwondencentrum Beverwijk (NL), the International Society for Burn Injuries and the European Tissue Repair Society. The victims of the café fire in Volendam (in 2001, NL) were the first patients to receive HST.

How is HST applied to scars?

Of all hair transplant options for scarring and burns, HST treatment provides the best and most natural results. Conventional techniques, such as FUE, are limited by the number of hairs in the donor area and the size of the grafts. In contrast, the HST method can stimulate new hair growth on scar tissue even with a limited number of donor hairs.

This is achieved by extracting only a small part of the hair follicle (rather than the entire follicle) from the donor area. This tiny piece of tissue contains enough hair stem cells to promote new hair growth in the recipient area.

Moreover, hair growth remains intact in the donor area, allowing the newly harvested follicles to be used again in future treatments.

The touching story of Igli

gli suffered severe burns when he was just six months old. One of his biggest wishes was to have a full head of hair. After several successful treatments using the HST method, Hair Science Clinic has made this dream a reality. We are incredibly proud of this achievement.

Scientific background

For over 25 years, physician and researcher Dr. Coen Gho has focused on developing hair restoration techniques for individuals with burn scars. His scientific research has laid the foundation for Hair Stem-cell Transplantation (HST) and has played a crucial role in the physical and psychological recovery of thousands of burn patients.

Burn patients often have a limited donor area available for hair transplantation and may have already undergone multiple reconstructive surgeries, which can be both physically and emotionally challenging. As a result, minimizing pain and ensuring a quick healing process were key objectives in the development of the HST technique.

Natural look

An important goal in developing HST was to achieve natural-looking hair growth. Since scarred skin often has poor blood circulation, a specialized growth fluid was created alongside the HST technique. This substance is used to store the grafts after extraction, ensuring they remain in optimal condition.

Quick recovery

The transplanted grafts are extremely small, allowing them to adhere quickly to the recipient area. Blood flow is typically restored within just one day, facilitating rapid wound healing and minimizing the risk of scarring.

Natural results

The natural results of HST are unmatched and last a lifetime.

Hair restoration on scars

In addition to burns, scars can also result from accidents, surgeries, or illnesses. The skin in these scarred areas often has poor blood circulation, which prevents hair follicles from surviving and inhibits hair growth. Another type of scar is the one left by a FUT hair transplant, commonly known as the strip method, which results in a large, visible scar in the donor area. However, many types of scars can be treated with reconstructive HST to achieve hair restoration.

Why choose HST?

HST is a patented, advanced hair transplant technique developed from decades of scientific research. This treatment is highly safe and offers numerous advantages over other hair transplant methods, including minimal scarring, fine-meshed implants, lifelong results, and options for restoring facial hair (such as eyebrows and beards). The natural results of HST are unmatched.

HST is performed exclusively at official Hair Science Clinics located in the Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Portugal, Greece, United States, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore and India.

An international team of highly trained doctors and technicians provides exceptional care in accordance with the highest medical standards.

Best technique for facial hair restoration

HST employs precision instruments to transplant a small portion of the hair follicle, rather than the entire follicle. This refined approach results in virtually no scarring and is particularly well-suited for facial treatments. As a result, HST is significantly more versatile than conventional hair transplantation methods like FUT and FUE, and it is widely used for reconstructing beards, mustaches, and eyebrows, even on scarred tissue.
