HST hair transplant method
Dr. Coen Gho MD PhD is a leading international expert in the field of hair, hair stem cells and tissue engineering. He is also a specialist in hair restoration for burn victims. In collaboration with universities and academic hospitals all over the world he has developed a range of new therapies for burn wounds and hair and scalp diseases.
His most famous invention is Partial Longitudinal Follicular Unit Transplantation (PL-FUT), in short: Hair Stem Cell Transplantation (HST), a refined technique for hair transplantation, arisen from decades of scientific hair stem cell research.
As an expert in his field Gho is connected to the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), the European Burns Association (EBA), the International Society of Burn Injuries (ISBI) and the European Tissue Repair Society (ETRS)
His revolutionary technique set the base for Hair Science Institute, which consists of a Research- and Development branch, a Hair Science Academy and Hair Science Clinics all over the world. Gho works as as a highly experienced practitioner in his clinics in Amsterdam, Maastricht, London, Jakarta and Dubai. Next to that he is a committed to hair stem cell research, constantly striving for better, more patient-friendly treatments.
Next to worldwide clinics Hair Science Institute has it´s own R&D division and Hair Science Academy. We´re the only hair transplantation clinic in the world with in-house facilities for research and education. Clients benefit from the expertise and innovations that´s generated from the three branches.
Our R&D department is continuously working on perfecting our patented HST technique, structurally improving the instruments and efficiency of medical treatments. In addition we want to work as client-friendly and cost effective as possible. To stay on the front-line we are an active partner in scientific research and clinical studies conducted by universities and academic hospitals around the world.
Hair Science Academy is the education hub for our international medical staff. Physicians and technicians are intensively trained in the HST method in a sophisticated theoretical and practical program.
HST sets the power of nature to work by using the capacity for regeneration of human stem cells. The technique is distinctive because only a small part of the hair follicle, instead of the entire follicle, is harvested from the donor area. The tiny piece of tissue contains enough stem cells to grow new hair in the receptor area. A small miracle: the regenerative capacity incites hair growth in multiple areas from one single graft (hair follicle).
New grafts are placed very close to each other, which creates high hair density and a beautiful, natural-looking hairline. A special, preservation solution increases the viability of the grafts by giving them an extra boost. This dual approach is the basis of this sophisticated hair transplantation method which promotes hair growth in both receptor and donor area.
Who is it suitable for?
Everyone loses hair every day. Increased hair loss occurs in certain spots on the scalp when more hairs. are lost more quickly than they can grow. If the follicles shrink, hair cannot be produced. Ultimately, the hair dies as a result and can no longer grow back. This leads to thin hair and bald spots.
In general, there are three causes of baldness in men and women:
- The influence of hormones
- Hereditary baldness (androgenetic alopecia)
There are a number of factors that come into play. Hair stem cell transplantation could be right for you if:
- you have been suffering from hair loss for a quite long time and a pattern has been determined;
- you have enough donor hair of good quality;
- you are in good enough health for treatment;
- your hairline has receded as a result of an operation, for example;
- you have lost hair as a result of injuries, such as burns.
Getting the right diagnosis is essential. In a free, no-obligation consultation, our doctors and technicians will take the time to discuss your wishes and expectations with you, so that we know what exactly we can do for you.
In principle, anyone with hair loss or hair problems can be treated. But you can discuss whether this is suitable for you with one of our doctors in a free, no-obligation consultation. In certain situations, we do not recommend hair transplantation, For example, you might be too young.
One characteristic of scar tissue is that hair growth never recovers. But thanks to the HST method, hair growth can be restored on scars, even if the donor area is limited. Our highly experienced staff can offer you expert advice on this.
For more than 28 years, doctor and researcher Dr Coen Gho has been closely involved in the development of new medication and treatment methods for people with scars from burns. The results of these studies have led to the creation of the HSI method, which has been a crucial development for many people over the last few years in terms of their physical and mental recovery.
We work together with various burns centres in the Netherlands and Belgium and Germany.
Hair transplantation for afro-textured hair is more complicated than for other types of hair. This is because afro-textured hair also curls beneath the skin. Whether HST method is suitable for your afro-textured hair varies from person to person. To find out what options are available to you, we recommend contacting us to discuss your personal situation.
